Wall-e

We saw this guy at an open mic night, and he is the man, and this is funny:

Maintenance Letter

And another thing, I just realized that when I don't know how to spell something, I will just Google it, and if Google asks me if I meant something else, I know I spelled it wrong. Does everyone do that?

Chalk Dinosaur

Big news! Chalk Dinosaur finally completed their first LP! Sorry if you're sick of hearing Chalk Dino news, but that's too bad and actually, I'm not sorry. As they say: If you don't like it, you can always leave.

They finished recording and mixing towards the end of summer, got it mastered by THIS GUY, and just got it back from being printed! You can get it at CD Baby!

I've seen the band from its inception to CD. From me and John in Dave's basement, with the blues jr. and Dave's brothers drumset, to a full blown recording studio in Harrison's basement and a CD. Gear aside, I have seen them all become really great musicians. There is a point when you're watching a band, and you can tell they've been playing together for a long time. They are comfortable and confident on stage, they know the queues from their bandmates, and they don't miss a beat. Needless to say I was never near that point, but the last time I saw Chalk Dinosaur open for Starfucker at the Brillo Box in Pittsburgh, they absolutely floored me.

Anyways, I am extremely proud of John, Matt, Rich and Harrison for putting all of this together. Seeing the creativity, dedication, and hard work that lead to this CD is inspiring to me, and I'm really proud know and have played with them all. They are all incredible guys and I know they will succeed.

You should buy a CD.

Snacks on snacks!

Well, I hate for this to be my first post in so long, but it is. As of the end of July, I will be sharing an apartment with Jakie Baby, and Dave, unbelievable. Three CMU jerks re-united in one house of supreme creamyness.

If you've seen daves liquor cabinet right now, I can't imagine what it will look like when Dave's raking in a salary AND Dave says he's already bought a present for the house! Gin Rickeys all around.

I can't wait to be living with those two rad dudes, whilst saving no less than 700 dollars a month on rent. Yeah you titty lickers, 700 dollars a month, a NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM.

Anyways, the point was, I found this video, which I think demonstrates a technique that will be employed at the new pad for sure. Reminds me of good old Tem, suffer through the first minute to get to the fridge tour...

John O, Blowing up

Big news for Chalk Dinosaur!

The Pittsburgh City Paper reviewed the band, you can check it out here! I feel like Pittsburgh has a pretty good city paper, or maybe that's just because I used to read Savage love...Either way, great news for John O.

Another Pittsburgh music blog reviewed one of John's newest songs, Crazy Folks! This is great, just unsolicited attention, and good attention at that. It makes me really happy to have been part of it, and still kind of part of it.

Harrison Wargo, from The Morning Light, who we opened for a little ways back, is playing with the band now. He left the Morning Light, I dont' know why, but he's perfect for these guys. He is more experienced, and has played more and bigger shows than any of us, and I think he just brings a lot to the table.

On top of these things, Matt booked a show with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, who just happens to be one of my favorite bands to listen to right now. Maybe even my favorite. The show is on April 11th at The Brillo Box, it's going to be wild. I get to play guitar! 3 guitars/2 guitars and keyboard is what's happening. We'll see how it goes, 3 guitars, a little over the top, but they insist. Gonna be SICK NASTY.

Later!

David Shredder Update

Woah! Anonymous commented on a post I wrote back in September, and totally owned me. Hahaha, I'm going to say this wasn't a horrendous boof, seeing as this is a theme song from a TV show that came out 5 years before I was born, and only ran for 3 seasons. Does everyone else know that George's answering machine was modeled after the theme song to Greatest American Hero?! Either way, it actually makes George's machine EVEN MORE funny to me. I stand by my opinion that the David Shredder stand up was completely butt.

And I still can't even find mention of his name anywhere.

New Bike!

I have been lusting for this bicycle for quite some time now, and finally pulled the trigger on Friday. It is a 54cm (seat tube) glossy orange Windsor Clockwork. $320 dollars from www.bikesdirect.com which is an excellent website, they ship free within the continental US. Unbelievable. It left Texas on Saturday, so maybe I will have it by this week, wooooooooooo! Later.

One of the most nutso things that's ever happened to me

Me and Jake and Danlee decided to go somewhere we don't go very often last night, so we took the metro to U Street, and were just kind of bar hopping, and checking out a bunch of places. And we got to this one place, Sollys, that had a pretty good Jukebox and cheap High Life pounders. It was the spot, and then we heard what sounded like one of the windows getting smashed, and the whole bar shook and started filling up with smoke.

When I ran outside to see what happened, and a cab had crashed THROUGH the wall of the bar, like 10 feet from where me, Dan, and Jake were. The cab driver looked like he either went insane or was having a seizure, I could see him when I got outside, and his foot was still on the gas so the bar filled up with burning tire smoke in a matter of seconds. That shit was crazy, nobody seriously injured.

Here's some proof that this happened

Stop Smoking February - Day 3

Some of my friends are stopping drinking in February (It's the shortest month), and there was no way I was doing that, so I decided to try and stop smoking instead. I probably should have posted about this before I started, I've been really busy at work, so suck me.

I'm on Day 3 right now. I'll tell you what, people are a lot less bearable whenever I stop smoking. Shit is much more annoying when I'm trying to quit, I just like being by myself more. I find that I am especially productive though, because I'm trying to keep myself busy all the time, especially my hands. I made dumplings from scratch again, which was great, my apartment is super clean and my laundry is done. I've also gone to the grocery store like every day this week so far.

Anyways, I've cheated once already, I smoked a cigarette last night. It was crazy, I actually got a nicotine buzz. I could feel it flowing through my veins, wild stuff.

Be back later.

Eternal Life via Blinds

WOOOOOO. Remember when I lived at Filmore Street? No? Well, anyways I lived there my Sophomore year at CMU. I made a big smiley face out of the blinds one time by coloring in masking tape blue, and taping it strategically to the blinds. Now K2's sister Aislinn lives in my room, and I asked him to see if the smiley was still there, and low and behold:

You can flip the blinds so they face outside, and then it's a frowny face...think about it.

Just joking, it's still a smiley face when you flip the blinds outside.

Mike gets famous

Screen shot of Mike from the WPXI vid

I was talking to Mike O. today after the Steelers won and, as could be predicted, people were going wacky crazy in the Southside last night after the win. People were all driving around with 20 people in the back of their pick up truck, hootin and hollerin about the Steelers, waving their towels about. Anyways, wpxi.com posted a video about it titled "Steeler Fans Occupy The South Side", and my brother stars in it. Scrub forward to 20:05 to see Mike O. Awesome stuff. I think the script looked something like this:

1. Stand on left side of the frame with Santonio Holmes jersey on
2. Talk to girl with mouth
3. Look directly into camera
4. Get scared, cover face with Terrible Towel

annnnnd cut.
PRINT IT.

Late Christmas Present

In every day life news, I got the best late christmas present ever from Nicole's Mom. She knit me a black and gold scarf, and the best part of it is that I can rock the scarf at ANY professional Pittsburgh sporting event and be wearing the right colors! It's the most rockin christmas present i've got in a while, check it out...

She also made a black and orange scarf which I was seriously considering keeping, due to the fact that it will match the bike I'm going to get, but I decided the steelers colors scarf is too good to give up. The other scarf will go to Danlee, pictured below, he deserves it:

Hitler Cake Update

Well, there was a little update on the Adolf Hitler Campbell cake story, it's like an episode of lost, THE MAN STOLE THEIR KIDS.

And also, I agree that these people should not be getting all this publicity for this balogna, but this is kind of interesting as the police claim that the reason they took the children has nothing to do with their names. Gotta see what happens.

Grammy Nominations

I was reading through the grammy nominations, I just wanted to make a few observations.

- Wayne Brady is a nominee for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance. From the hoe down on Who's line is it anyway to Grammy Nomination. Who knew.
A Change Is Gonna Come
Wayne Brady
Track from: A Long Time Coming
[Peak Records]

- Sara Bareilles is up for 2 Grammys, Song of the year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. This is just swell.

- I didn't know They Might Be Giants were making kid's albums these days:
Here Come The 123s
They Might Be Giants
[Disney Sound]

- Flight of the conchords is up for best comedy album, I didn't see their name in the folk section, regardless of the fact that they call themselves folk. I guess the Recording Academy has the last say.

- Justice is up for an award for remixing an MGMT song, which seems pretty dumb, I don't really know if both of them get an award if they win or what, but the best remix award is for chumps.
Electric Feel (Justice Remix)
Justice, remixers (MGMT)
Track from: Oracular Spectacular
[Columbia]
